REMOTE-CONTROLLED MANIPULATING APPARATUS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4685879
A remote-controlled apparatus for manipulating radioactive materials in sealed chambers is patented. All of the control units outside the chamber are mounted in a box, which is movable on the roof of the sealed chamber. All of the operating units within the chamber are mounted in a movable box on the inside surface of the roof and are capable of following all of the movements of the external box. Connections between the control and operating units are effected by means of two rotary magnets, one on each side of the roof of the chamber. Therefore, no openings in the walls of the sealed chambers are required. Transmission of commands from the operator to the controlling external box is effected through electric cables, and movement of the external box is effected by means of electric motors. Details of the apparatus are described and illustrated. (M.P.G.)
