CONSEQUENCES OF SU$sub 3$ INVARIANCE

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4685236

Charge independence is shown to dictate 14 relations in 5 different quantities between the 19 cross sections for pi + SIGMA interactions. Charge independence together with invariance under the Weyl reflections is noted to constitute invariance under the SU/sub 3/ group. A list of octet reactions and decays is given along with the derived relations from SU/sub 3/ invariance that are linear in the cross sections. Variance breaking effects are estimated, and the consequences of approximate SU/sub 3/ invariance are considered. Relations for the decay of decuplet and octet baryon resonances are derived and compared with experimental informntion. The electromagnetic properties of unitary multiplets are also examined.
