SEMI-ANNUAL PROGRESS REPORT ON AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH , JULY 1-DECEMBER 31, 1962
The status of burros, swine, and cattle surviving irradiation from nuclear explosions and critical assemblies is reported. Emphasis is placed on the effects of irradiation on the central nervous system. Data are presented from studies on: the effects of radiation on reproduction in cattle, sheep, and rabbits; physiological effects of radiation in sheep and rats; tracer studies on the metabolism of Ca, Sr, Zn, I, Se, and Rb in domestic animals; an investigation of methods for the removal of Cs/sup 134/ from beef; the metabolism of fission products in poultry; the chemistry of fission products in soil; and factors affecting the radiosensitivity of seeds and other plant parts that can be used by plant breeders to increase the variability of their foundation stocks.
