The Generation Cycle of Duodenal Crypt Cells of Mice Exposed to 220 Roentgens of Cobalt-60 Gamma Irradiation per Day

The mucosal epithelium of the duodenum of BCF1 mice exposed to 220 r/day for 1, 7, 14, 17, and 18 days was studied and compared to that of nonirradiated controls of same age. The generation time of the duodenal crypt cells of mice irradiated for 1, 7, and 14 days, and of the controls, was determined. Since it was found that cells are cold up between the end of synthesis and the completion of tosis, the initial effect may be similar to the effect produced by a single exposure.
