THE THEORY OF HETEROGENEOUS REACTORS WITH FINITE-RADIUS BLOCKS (in Russian)

Journal Article · · At. Energ. (USSR)
OSTI ID:4683328
A theory of thermal neutron reactors, possessing cells with dimensions much larger than the neutron scattering path in the moderator, is presented. In contrast to the original Feinberg-Galanin theory, each of the cylindrical blocks is not only a neutron simile but possesses also a dipole moment. For this reason, two polarization constants, which determine the diffusion length in the lattice in parallel and perpendicular directions with respect to the axis, must be defined in addition to the thermal constants. The characteristic lattice equations and formulas for the determination of the diffusion length were derived for the case of sufficiently low absorption in the moderator and a large number of cells in the reactor. As an example, the polarization constants in the P/sub 2/ approximation were computed. In the P/sub 1/ approximation the resuits obtained agree well with the results reported previously (Atomnaya Energ. 9, which were incorrectly calculated in the earlier publication. (TTT)
