There is a possibility to improve the storage condition of fruits or vegetables through the control of ripening by irradiation, and many problems remain to be solved about the physiology of the fruit-ripening process. The effect of gamma rays is observed in reference to these points on bananas and Japanese persimmons. Sprout-inhibiting effects on onions and potatoes are also studied. (T.F.H.)
