MONOCHROMATIC RADIATION PYROMETRY OF HOT GASES, PLASMAS, AND DETONATIONS

Journal Article · · Temp. Meas. Control Sci. Ind.

Since gases have discontinuous emission spectraL optical pyrometric methods for the measurement of their temperatures must be confined to a narrow spectral band. An infrared monochromatic pyrometry method is described. Infrared light from a standard source is passed through the gas (flame, plasma, etc) whose temperature is to be determined. The light emerging from the gas is compoged of the unabsorbed light from the standard source and the light emitted by the gas. This light is passed through a monochromator, and light at a particular wavelength ( lambda ) is selected by the monochromator. The light at lambda is sent to a temperature-sensing device. Instrumentation and experiimental results are described. (T.F.R.)
