Following the release of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) report on dioxin, Health Assessment Document for 2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) and Related Compounds, dioxin became the battle cry for those who are opposed to waste incineration. Citizen activist groups have been using the Agency`s findings on potential health effects despite the fact that an EPA Science Advisory Board (SAB) Committee has questioned the strength of the supporting data. This paper will review the EPA`s major findings and discuss the conclusions of the SAB Committee review.
