The ultravacuum zone fusion installation permits a limiting vacuum of 10/ sup -9/ Torr to be obtained. Zone fusion under a static vacuum of 10/sup -7/ Torr (chamber isolated from the pumping complex) can be performed. The bars obtained under these conditions after four passages have a significant purification over the major part of their length. (tr-auth)
