MECHANISMS OF NUCLEAR REACTIONS BETWEEN LITHIUM NUCLEI

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4678510
Double coincidence measurements of the angles and energies of two alpha partlcles from the reaction Li/sup 6/ + Li/sup 6/ yields 3 alpha + 20.90 Mev indicated that the reaction must proceed by a cluster process. The data are consistent with a Li/sup 6/ nucleus attaching itself to a deuteron cluster, the two most likely coalescing into a Be/sup 8/ excited state at 20.95 plus or minus 0.3 Mev, leaving 21.85- 20.95 = 0.90 Mev to be divided in the kinetic energies of separation of the Be/sup 8*/ and the remaining alpha.
