Polarization of neutrons from the D(d,n)He{sup 3} reaction

Conference ·
OSTI ID:4676540
Deuterons were directed against D/sub 2/O vapor deposited on the walls of a target Dewar of liquid air. The polarization of the neutrons was determined by observing the right-left asymmetry in scattering from carbon of known polarization. Values of 11.1 (maximum), 7.8, and 8.0% were found at 99, 81.5, and 87.5 kev, respectively. The carbon polarization is also shown, and these results are compared with other determinations and with theory. (D.C.W.)
