THE CHOICE OF BETATRON OSCILLATION FREQUENCIES IN A SPIRAL SECTOR FFAG ACCELERATOR

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4675929
In a fixed-field alternating-gradient (FFAG) accelerator, the stability limits and the stability of the machine against field perturbations is very much affected by the choice of the betatron oscillation frequencies, nu /sub r/, and nu /sub z/. A general criterion for the stability of the accelerator is proposed, and using this criterion, a computer study was carried out on the dependence of the stability on nu /sub r/, and nu /sub z/. The results of this stability survey seem to indicate a relatively unique choice of nu /sub r/ and nu /sub z/ to obtain the desired beam intensity. (auth)
