A new and improved method and apparatus for radiographic inspection of welds in pipes, tanks, or other objects are patented. The apparatus includes a means for moving the radiographic unit relative to the weld, a means for moving the radiographic film and coordinating it with the movement of the radiographic unit, a means for stopping the longitudinal movement of the apparatus when a weld is reached, and a track for guiding the unit along a weld. The radiographic unit has a small focal area of emitted rays, and the rays are restricted so that only a beam of substantially parallel rays reaches the film. The designs of the apparatus to move the radiographic unit and to hold and move the film are described in detail. (M.P.G.)
