ANALYTICAL POSSIBILITIES OF A SERIES OF NEW AROMATIC-TYPE CHELATE COMPOUNDS

Journal Article · · Analytica Chimica Acta (Netherlands)
A study was made of the visible spectra of a number of metal ions in the presence of 1,3-bis(2'-pyridyl)-1,2diazaprop-2-ene in order to evaluate their analytical possibilities. The metals tested were: Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Al, La, Ce, U, Ti, Zr, V, Cr, Mo, W, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Ru, Rh, Pd, Os, Ir, Pt, Cu, Ag, Au, Zn, Cd, Hg, In, Tl, Sn, Pb, As, Sb, and Bi. An Fe(III) solution at pH 4.2 changed, on standing, from an initial pale yellow to an orange-red color, which essentially reached maximum intensity after 30 min. The observed color intensities of Co, Ni, Zn, Cu, Pd, Cd, and Fe(II) solutions were high, especially in view of the fact that the metal concentration was only 2 mu g/ml in all cases. (P.C.H.)
