PROTON CAPTURE $gamma$-RAYS FROM Be$sup 8$ IN THE GIANT RESONANCE REGION

Journal Article · · Nuclear Physics (Netherlands) Divided into Nucl. Phys. A and Nucl. Phys. B
The excitation function of the Li/sup 7/(p, gamma )Be/sup 8/ reaction was measured at 90 deg for proton energies between 2.5 and 9 Mev. Transitions to the ground state and first excited state exhibit broad resonances at E/sub p/ 5 and 7.3 Mev, respectively, with evidence for a subsidiary peak at E/sub p/ approximately 8 Mev in the gamma /sub 1/ yield. The angular distributions for both components remain nearly constant over a 5 Mev range of proton energy. (auth)
