Investigation of the Lee model shows that, while in some cases an experimental test can decide whether a given particie is elementary or composite, in other cases different hamiltonians, involving different sets of elementary particles, can describe the same situation. In these last cases, the elementary or composite character of a particle depends on the choice of the hamiltonian, and all particles are fundamentally equivaient. (auth)
