VELOCITY DEPENDENT NUCLEON-NUCLEON INTERACTIONS AND THE GROUND STATE OF NUCLEAR MATTER

Journal Article · · Nuclear Physics (Netherlands) Divided into Nucl. Phys. A and Nucl. Phys. B
The binding energy per particie of nuclear matter is computed within the independent pair theory with the assumption of a simple velocity dependent nucleon-nucleon force. Non-central interactions are neglected, the central interaction is assumed to act only in even parity states. The square well approximation for the radial shape of the potential is used. The independent pair theory predicts a saturation density that corresponds to k/sub f/ = 1.47 fm/ sup -1/ and a binding energy per particle of = -15.1 Mev. A calculation using the Hartree-Fock approximation gives k/sub f/ = 1.56 fm/sup -1/ and = - 13.3 Mev. (auth)
