N$sup 13$ AND C$sup 11$ RANGE AND ANGULAR DISTRIBUTIONS FROM N$sup 14$ ON B$sup 1$$sup 0$

Journal Article · · Physical Review (U.S.) Superseded in part by Phys. Rev. A, Phys. Rev. B: Solid State, Phys. Rev. C, and Phys. Rev. D
The range and angular distributions of N/sup 13/ and C/sup 11/ particles resulting from the transfer reactions B/sup 10/(N/sup 14/, N/sup 13/)B/su p 11/ and B/sup 10/(N/sup 14/,C/sup 13/)C/sup 11/, respectively, are reported. It is f ound that in the first reaction N/sup 13/ nuclei originating from transfers to B/ sup 11/ excited states are observed at angles larger than angles at which N/sup 13/ particles due to ground-state transfers are observed; also, the peaks of the N/sup 13/ angular distributions shift to larger angles when the bombarding energy is lowered. The investigation of the proton-transfer reaction is limited by the low-kinetic energy of the C/sup 11/ particles at large laboratory angles, where most of them are observed for a bombarding energy of 28.0 Mev. When the incident N/sup 14/ energy is lowered, more C/sup 11/ particles are observed at smaller angles. This variation with bombarding energy is as expected for a recoil particle in a transfer reaction. Experimental results obtained for both reactions are compared with the tunneling mechanism proposed by Breit for nucleon transfer. (auth)
