Resonance Raman and unenhanced Raman spectroscopy are used to observe submonolayer coverages of organics on glassy carbon and graphite. Polarized Raman of phthalocyamines reveals absorbate orientation. Derivatization of GC and graphite surfaces with covalently bonded nitrophenyl groups, and their reduction to aminophenyl groups were monitored with unenhanced Raman spectroscopy.
