EVAPORATION OF RARE EARTH TETRACHLORIDES (in Russian)

Thermodynamic characteristics of saturated vapor pressures in LaCl/sub 3/ , CeCl/sub 3/, PrCl/sub 3/, NdCl/sub 3/, and EuCl were measured up to 1400 deg C by thermographic boiling point'' variation method. The results are described by the equation: lgpmmHg = A-- BETA /T-- 9.061 lg T where coefficient 9.061 is ( DELTA Cp)/(R) (where DELTA Cp =-18 plus or minus 2 kcal/mole). The equation holds from melting point up io boiling point of all respective rare earth chlorides. Characteristics of evaporation process are tabulated Ce, Dy, Er, Eu, Ga, Ho, La, Lu, Nd, Pm, Pr, Tb, Tm, Yb tetrachlorides. (R.V.J.)
