MICROBAROGRAPH RECORDINGS OF NUCLEAR EXPLOSIONS (in Italian)

Journal Article · · Atti, Ist. Veneto Sci., Lettere Arti, Classe Sci. Mat. Nat.

The principles and operation of the microbarograph constructed two years ago are reported, and two recordings of Russian nuclear explosions at Nova Zemlja in October 1961 are presented. The pressure waves produced by nuclear explosions have a very characteristic shape that is clearly recorded by the microbarograph. A speed of 300 m/sec was found for those waves coming directly from the center of the explosion. ft is suggested that microbarograph may be tue best indicator of some nuclear explosions because of the unreliability of seismic recordings and of the indirect route of some air masses from the explosion center.
