Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4660504

More than 100 participants from 21 nations and 2 international organizations participated in the symposium in Vienna from November 11-15, 1963, to survey the present state of progress in the solution of control problems in regard to the develpment of nuclear reactors. Thirty four papers were presented at the meeting, all in English except for 5 in Russian and 4 in French, which are preceded by abstracts in English. The topics discussed fall into 8 categories: Theory of control rods; Calculations and experiments with control rods, two sessions; Basic nuclear and technological characteristics of control rod materials; design, fabrication and performance of control rods, two sessions; engineering aspects of control rod systems; and, Methods for the control of reactivity. The meeting was concluded by a panel session in which the present situation in various fields was summed up and the direction of future efforts outlined.
