BS>A mass-spectrometer ion-source assembly, which is compact and easily accessible for maintenance, is patented. The ion source is supported by a tubular column mounted on a base plate. A sample inlet pipe extends through the column from the base plate to the ion source. Electrical connections pass through seals in the base plate and extend to the ion source outside of the column. The support column is longitudinaliy slotted over most of its length and is mounted on the base plate by means of an end flange. (M.P.G.)
