RADIATION DOSE TO THE EYES WITH CONVERGENT IRRADIATION IN THE AREA OF THE EPIPHARYNX

Journal Article · · Radiobiol. Radiotherap.
OSTI ID:4657541
Procedures are described for protecting the eye during convergent radiotherapy of malignant tumors of the epipharynx. Results are reported from measurements on phantoms using appropriate isodose and exact adjustment of the x ray beam. It is pointed out that covering the eye during irradiation reduces the radiation dose to the lens, but that an exact combination of focus and field is required to avoid damage to the optic nerve and the possible formation of radioinduced cataracts.
