Earlier work on correlating the structures of ternary oxides was extended to ABO/sub 2/ type compounds. Studies on the preparation and structure of lithium rare-earth oxides indicate compound formation for dysprosium and all heavier rare earths. The LiScO/sub 2/ type of structure with some distortion was observed. Dietzel' s rule is found to apply fairly well for the prediction of lack of compound formation. (auth)
