$alpha$ CENTERS IN ALKALI HALIDE CRYSTALS

Journal Article · · J. Phys. Soc. Japan
OSTI ID:4655593
Optical studies were made concerning alpha centers in KI, KBr, KCl, NaCl, and NaF. Position, half width, and oscillator strength of alpha absorption bands, thermal stability of alpha centers, and fluorescence by alpha light absorption and its quantum efficiency were investigated. The observed fluorescence suffered quite a large Stokes shift in all the crystals measured. The quartum efficiency of alpha fluorescence was determined on KCl by referring to that of 305 mV emission excited by 246 m mu band in KCl: Tl phosphor. Temperature dependence of the emission spectrum of alpha fluorescence was found not remarkable and the quantum efficiency seemed to be independent of method of coloration and concentration of alpha and F centers.
