Irradiation of ethyl-1-C/sup 14/ iodide gave ethyl-2-C/sup 14/ iodide with G/sub r/ of 0.27 to 0.28 for samples that were either deaerated or not deaerated. Addition of 1% by weight of iodine before irradiation decreased the extent of rearrangement to nearly zero. The occurrence of 1,2-hydrogen shifts in ethyl radicals outside of the spurs, which may be susceptible to scavenger action, is suggested as a possible path which would lead to the ethyl-2-C/sup 14/ iodide.
