COMPATIBILITY EVALUATION OF MATERIALS WITH CESIUM

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4653559
The compatibility of materials in liquid cesium is described for a temperature range from room temperature to 500 deg C and in cesium vapor for a temperature range of 300 to 1000 deg C. Compatibility data are presented for ceramics, metals, and alloys. Gold and silver and alloys containing these metals were found to be the least resistive to attack throughout the temperature range when in contact with cesium liquid or vapor. The refractory metals, high purity aluminas, magnesia, beryllia, and many more metals and alloys were resistant to cesium attack within the temperature range. (auth)
