RADIOLYSIS OF THIOPHENOL IN BENZENE

Journal Article · · Ann. Rept. Radiation Center Osaka Prefect
OSTI ID:4651857
The radiolysis of thiophenol in benzene solution was studied. Thiophenol is oxidized to diphenyl disulfide as the radiation energy absorbed in the benzene is transferred to the thiophenol. The effects of the initial concentration of thiophenol and the radiation doses were measured directly, and the first order rate constant was calculated. The relative stability of the S-H and C-S bonds was about 1:200. Radiolysis of diphenyl disulfide or hydrogen sulfide in benzene was found to form thiophenol. (P.C.H.)
