Refiners often try to improve fluid catalytic cracking unit (FCCU) operation and output by revamping the product recovery section. But, following such revamps, unit operations frequently become problematic. This final article in a two-part series presents two case studies detailing revamp problems. One occurred in an absorber/stripper and the other, in a stripper reboiler. These cases show how simple measures were used to diagnose and solve the problems. The first article in this series discussed FCC revamps and described the resolution of a problem in an FCCU sponge oil circuit.
