IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO MOBILE MACHINES FOR EFFECTING MOVEMENTS OF ELEMENTS THROUGH APERTURES BETWEEN THE INTERIOR AND THE EXTERIOR OF CHAMBERS ADAPTED TO CONTAIN RADIO-ACTIVE MATTER
A reactor refueling machine, which may be positioned on the reactor with relative ease, is patented. The machine consists of a shielded container and a mechanism for transferring fuel elements between the container and the reactor tank. A coupling makes a fluid-tight joint around the container opening and any one of a number of tank openings. Two carriages, one mounted on the other and movable in transverse paths, support the container and move it so that the openings in the container and reactor tank are in approximate alignment. The container is pendantly supported by a series of upright tension members, which permit movement of the container relative to the supporting carriages to exact alignment of the openings. (M.P.G.)
