TICKS OF THE NEVADA TEST SITE
A study was made to determine kinds, population, seasonal occurrence, and geogriphical and ecological distribution of ticks in areas where nuclear detonations have taken place. The tick collections were principally from rodents and leporids found in valleys and lower elevations of the surrounding mesas and mountain ranges. Hosts, seasonal incidence, and plant community relationships are given for Argas persicus, Otobius lagophilus, Dermacentor albipictus, Dermacentor parumapertus, Haemaphysalis leporis-palustus, Ixodes angustus, Ixodes kingi, Ixodes ochotonae, Ixodes pacificus, Ixodes sculptus, and Ixodes spinipalpis. Of the 24 species of animals found infested with ticks, 17 were infested with larvae, 19 with nymphs, and only 6 with adults. (M.C.G.)
