ELEMENTARITY OF VECTOR MESONS

It is shown that vector mesons cannot be described by elementary poles except in the unrealistic case for which the total cross section increases as the log of the square o the center-of-mass energy for large energies. A method for determining whether the assumed asymptotic behavior of the scattering amplitude is consistent with the unitarity condition is presented. (C.E.S.)
