The method described is concerned with the production or uranium hexafluoride by conversion of UF/sub 4/ with oxygen. The method comprises the steps of introducing dry UF/sub 4/ and dry oxygen containing gas into a zone of high turbulence of UO/sub 2/F/sub 2/, the concentration of the UF/sub 4/ within the said zone remaining below 25 weight%. The temperature of the zoiie of high turbulence is maintained at about 600 to 900 deg C, and the UF/sub 6/ produced in this run is recovered. Two examples are described in detail. A description of the apparatus is given. (NPO)
