A method of remotely cutting and welding pipes in pipework installations is patented. The component, which must be replaced by remotely operable means, is connected to the permanent installation by a T-pipe with vertically aligned limbs. The stem of the T is connected to the replaceable component, and an internal weld in a horizontal plane connects the downwardly extending limb to the vertical permanentiy installed pipe. The upper end of the upper limb is closed by a removable closure cap and serves as a blind access conduit for making or cutting the internal weld by remotely operable tools. This makes it possible for the remote cutting or welding tool to operate in one plane only. (M.P.G.)
