ON THE ANALYTIC CONTINUATION OF THE SCATTERING AMPLITUDE THROUGH A THREE- PARTICLE CUT
The analytic continuation of the scattering amplitude onto the sheet reached by encircling the lowest threeparticle singularity in an anticlockwise direction is investigated by using generalized normal threshold discontinuity formulas derived from unitarity. The integral equation is not Fredholm because of the connectedness structure of the three-particle amplitude, but this difficulty is overcome by a manipulation that introduces extra integrations in which complex normal thresholds may occur. It is verified that if there is a two- particle state, 2', with a particle in common with the three-particle state, then the normal threshold corresponding to the state, 2', vanished on this particular three-particle sheet. Threeparticle sheets reached by different routes are also considered. A hypothesis concerning the analytic structure of multiparticle amplitudes is used as a gulde. (auth)
