``Improved`` lattice study of semileptonic decays of {ital D} mesons

We present results of a lattice computation of the matrix elements of the vector and axial-vector currents which are relevant for the semileptonic decays {ital D}{r_arrow}{ital K} and {ital D}{r_arrow}{ital K}{sup *}. The computations are performed in the quenched approximation to lattice QCD on a 24{sup 3}{times}48 lattice at {beta}=6.2, using an {ital O}({ital a})-improved fermionic action. In the limit of zero lepton masses the semileptonic decays {ital D}{r_arrow}{ital K} and {ital D}{r_arrow}{ital K}{sup *} are described by four form factors: {ital f}{sub {ital K}}{sup +}, {ital V}, {ital A}{sub 1}, and {ital A}{sub 2}, which are functions of {ital q}{sup 2}, where {ital q}{sup {mu}} is the four-momentum transferred in the process. Our results for these form factors at {ital q}{sup 2}=0 are {ital f}{sub {ital K}}{sup +}(0)=0.67{sub {minus}8}{sup +7}, {ital V}(0)=1.01{sub {minus}13}{sup +30}, {ital A}{sub 1}(0)=0.70{sub {minus}10}{sup +7}, {ital A}{sub 2}(0)=0.66{sub {minus}15}{sup +10}, which are consistent with the most recent experimental world average values. We have also determined the {ital q}{sup 2} dependence of the form factors, which we find to be reasonably well described by a simple pole-dominance model. Results for other form factors, including those relevant to the decays {ital D}{r_arrow}{pi} and {ital D}{r_arrow}{rho}, are also given.
