ALUMINUM ALLOYS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4635173
An Al--Pu alloy containing from 2 to 8 wt.% Pu is patented. The alloy is a ternary alloy with the third element being Ni, Si, or U. The percentage of Ni should be from 1 to 2 wt.%, and that of Si or U should be from 13 to 17 wt.%, with the balance Al. The alloy is prepared by preparing a binary alloy of Al and Pu and adding Ni, Si, or U to it while it is molten. The alloy is corrosion- resistant, does not absorb neutrons to a significant degree, and is suitable for reactor fuel elements. (M.P.G.)
