A BUILD-UP CORRECTED SINGLE COLLISION MODEL FOR GAMMA RAY BACKSCATTERING

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4635155
A build-up corrected single collision Kernel was developed to calculate the backscattered energy flux at a specified location resulting from a monoenergetic point monodirectional gamma beam with a given angle of incidence on a scatterer of specified thickness. The formulation is supported by phenomenological analysis and by a comparison of total energy albedos, as calculated by a single collision Kernel, to Monte Carlo data. The angular distribution of reflected energy was computed by means of a build-up corrected single-collision Kernel for 1-Mev gamma rays backscattered from concrete. The results are shown to be in good agreement with Monte Carlo data. (P.C.H.)
