DISTRIBUTION OF STRONTIUM-90 AND CESIUM-137 IN NORWAY SPRUCE (PICEA ABIES)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4631230
The content of Sr/sup 90/ and Cs/sup 137/ in 1-m sections of two trees, Picea abies, and in the root and the top of one of the trees have been determined by radiochemical analysis. The resulting values have been used for calculation of Sr/sup 90/ and Cs/sup 137/ in stem, branches, needles, twigs, and root of the whole tree. The distribution among bark, wood, needles, and twigs has also been evaluated. The Sr/sup 90/ and Cs/sup 137/ content in pC/kg dry weight of the stem and the cubic mass of spruce per decare of mean mixed forest in Norway have been used to obtain an indication of the contribution of Sr/sup 90/ and Cs/sup 137/ in mC/km/sup 2/ from spruces to the forest.
