RADIATION TUBING GAUGE FOR COMPUTING SINGLE-WALL THICKNESSES FROM PLURAL DOUBLE-WALL THICKNESS MEASUREMENTS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4630966

An apparatus for measuring the single-wall thickness of a tube in accordance with the radiation absorption of double-wall thicknesses at at least three points equally spaced on the circumference of the tube is described. It consists of a radioactive source for providing a beam of penetrating radiation, a radiation detector, means for mounting the source and the detector so they can be revolved, a measuring circuit connected to the detector for developing an intensity-proportional signal indicative of the combined wall thickness of the tube between each pair of points, a memory circuit, means for coupling the electric signals to the memory circuit, a computer for combining stored electric signals to produce analog voltages indicative of single-wall thickness at each of the points.
