THE EVOLUTION OF XENON-133 FROM SLIGHTLY IRRADIATED ZIRCONIAURANIA PLATES

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4629170
Zirconia-urania solid solution high density plates fabricated from ZrO/ sub 2/ and slightly enriched UO/sub 2/ powders were irradiated with neutrons, and the amount of Xe/sup 133/ released was measured as a function of temperature. Assuming a diffuaion mechanism based on a model of a flat plate containing a uniform initial distribution of fission gas, diffusion coefficients were calculated for the 700 to 1250 deg C temperature range. The diffusion coefficient for Xe/sup 133/in slightly irradiated (1 x 10/sup 16/ fissions/cc) single-phase tetragonal ZrO/sub 2/--28 wt% UO/sub 2/ plates can be represented by the equation, D = 15 exp (--92,275/RT); the activation energy is 92.3 plus or minus 2.5 kcal/mole; and ln Do = 2.7 plus or minus 1.0.
