OPTICAL MODEL ANALYSIS OF INELASTIC SCATTERING OF NEUTRONS BY HEAVY NUCLEI
Technical Report

OSTI ID:4626948
A spherical optical potential was used to calculate the neutron scattering cross sections of Ta/sup 181/, W/sup 184/, Au/sup 197/, Pb/sup 208/, Bi/sup 209/, Th/sup 232/, and U/sup 238/. The parameters were deter mined by fitting the differential and total elastic cross section data. The calculated differential (at various energies) and total elastic cross sections are compared with experimental data, as are the calculated inelastic and differential inelastic cross sections for the excitation of various energy levels. Calculated total elastic angular distributions and the level schemes, parameters, and data sources used are also included. (D.C.W.)
