An analysis was made of high-energy helium fragments emitted in 9-Bev proton reactions with nuclear emulsions. In 5728 events 89 particles with Z = 2 and kinetic energies over 100 Mev were found. Tabulated data on doubly charged particles emitted from spallation at various kinetic energies showed that with larger E/sub k/the cross sections diminish. The method for separating doubly and singly charged particles is described. The results confirmed the presence of high-energy (2000-Mev) doubly charged particles among the interaction products. The observed particles could not be assigned to a specific helium isotope. (R.V.J.)
