Methods of manual and automatic control of nuclear reactors are discussed from the standpoint of safety and permissible periods. Methods to prevent runaway and unnecessary scram are considered. A survey of devices such as interlock switches and warning and scram systems is given. The tasks and scope of nuclear measuring channels with regard to automatic control and reactor safety are discussed. The possibility of breakdown and modes of operation in the safety apparatus are also reported. (auth)
