A METHOD FOR THE STUDY OF LOCAL FLUX DISTORTIONS IN A HETEROGENEOUS REACTOR

Journal Article · · Energia Nucl. (Milan)
OSTI ID:4624694
A method is described to evaluate the local flux distortions in a heterogeneous reactor. The method, derived from the Feinberg-Galanin heterogeneous method, is based on the consideration that the flux at a point is mainly determined by the neighboring rods. Therefore, it is not necessary, if only the knowledge or the flux within a small region is required, to apply the Feinberg-Galanin method to the whole multiplying system. Only the contribution from the neighboring rods are calculated using the Feinberg-Galanin method, while the remaining contribution from the remote rods are more roughly evaluated by a homogenization. Explicit formulas are given in the two-group approximation for plane and cylindrical geometry. The numerical examples carried out so far, in plane geometry, show good agreement with the results of a full heterogeneous treatment of the whole multiplying system. (auth)
