ECONOMICAL NUCLEAR POWER: A CANADIAN POINT OF VIEW (in Italian)

Journal Article · · Energia Nucl. (Milan)
OSTI ID:4624365
The Canadian concept of heavy water- natural uranium power reactor has entered the ranks of the proven types of reactors with the successful operation of NPD and the construction of CANDU. A brief survey of electrical power costs show that, under the present system of financing in Italy, the Canadian nuclear power station is clearly competitive with coal-fired stations in the Italian economy. The advantages of the Canadian system lie in the extremely simple fuel cycle employing low-cost, natural uranium oxide fuel. Other features of the system are briefly described. Current development shows that there is considerable potential for an organic liquid cooled reactor of the heavy water- natural uranium type. (auth)
