DELAYED PHOTONEUTRONS IN THE BERYLLIUM REACTOR BR 02 (in German)

After the shut down of the reactor BR 02 the residual flux decay curve was plotted for different places in the reactor and in the reactor core. These decay curves of the photoneutrons were approximated by a sum of the exponential functions. The exponential coefficients of the terms of the sum were practically identical with the decay constants of the responsible fission products or the parent substance. The choice of these exponential coefficients, as well as the intensities of the photoneutron groups, was found with help of an approximation according to the method of the smallest quadrant. From the size of the deviation of the measured points, the statistical distribution of the sign of this deviation was observed. The standardization followed with the help of the known groups of delayed neutrons, which could be assumed in the group relation measured by Keepin. The measured intensities were compared with calculated values. For those groups whose gamma emitters are well known, a relationship between the local intensity andd the average photoneutron energies was found. With the help of this dependence the average photoneutron energies for those groups whose gamma emitters are still unknown could be determined. In this manner, in the BR 02, 16 photoneutron groups with half lives between 18 sec and 12.8 days were established. The saturation intensity of all photoneutron groups in the reactor core amounted to 2.3% of the delayed neutrons. (tr-auth)
