AN INTERACTION OF A HYPERON OF STRANGENESS-2
An example of interaction of an identified XI /sup -/ hyperon at rest in nuclear emulsion, is reported. Two hypernuclei are produced at the capture star; one is unambiguously identified as H/sup 4/ hypernucleus from its characteristic decay mode, /sub LAMBDA /H/sup 4/ yields He/sup 4/ + pi /sup -/ the second one is most pr obably a He/sup 4.5/ hypernucleus decaying in the non pi /sup -/-mesic mode. The hyperon is produced in a disintegration caused by a K/ sup -/ meson of momentum, 1.5 Bev/c. Additional evidence for the strangeness value of the hyperon is obtained from the analysis of the parent K/sup -/ star. A charged K meson is emitted in the production process, which on the grounds of strangeness and energy balance in the reaction proves the strangeness -2 of the hyperon. (auth)
