Wireline tractor operations successful in horizontal wells

Introduced in this article is the implementation of the downhole wireline tractor technology. The development process, onshore full-scale testing and offshore field testing with the downhole wireline tractor system is reviewed. Case histories for the world`s first successful horizontal wireline tractor operations are given. Logging, plug-setting and perforation operations in wells with horizontal sections greater than 5,250 ft (1,600 m) are included in the case histories. The tractor system comprises five main sections: Surface communications and motor control; electrical section; hydraulic section; drive sections; and hydraulic compensator.
